Reflex Security Appoints James J. Watson President and Chief Executive Officer; Secures Series 'A' Round in New Financing
Former Gartner and RedCelsius Executive to Lead Next-Generation Intrusion Prevention and Detection Systems Software Company
ATLANTA -- July 30, 2003 -- Reflex Security, an industry visionary in the development of leading-edge security Intrusion Prevention and Detection
Systems, today announced that James "Jim" Watson, an ex-Gartner executive and former Chairman and CEO of RedCelsius with over 25 years of experience
in the Information Technology (IT) industry, has been appointed President and CEO. Watson's role will be to manage the company into its next phase
of growth by expanding the current customer and partner base in this fast-growing market segment. Additionally, Watson led a group of private
investors in securing series "A" funding for Reflex Security.
Watson brings to Reflex Security a proven track record of execution and leadership as well as strategic vision. During his eleven-year
career at Gartner, Watson was part of the key management team that saw revenues grow from approximately $10 million in 1987 to over $700
million in 1998 and included a successful IPO. While at Gartner, Watson opened offices in 13 US states, managed the research firm's Canadian
operations and, from 1995 through 1997, managed its Asia Pacific group, including the Asian CIO program. As Chairman and CEO of RedCelsius,
Watson was instrumental in securing a large contract with one of the Big Three automotive companies and built numerous key partnerships with
third-party sellers and system integrators.
"While representing a prominent private investment group, I looked for the next-generation security software company that had a proven
and mature product with referenceable customers and was in need of capitalization," said Watson. "The investors and I feel strongly that
we found that company in Reflex Security. Additionally, we liked the fact that Hezi Mualem, co-founder and CTO, and his development staff
all have roots from Georgia Tech."
According to Mualem, "We felt we needed, at this stage in the company's history, a seasoned IT executive who could bring additional
financing to our company and who possesses the ability to develop and execute sales, business development and marketing strategies to
exploit our technology leadership in the Intrusion Prevention and Detection Systems space. Jim is the right leader at the right time to
help the company expand our technology leadership position."
Customers are now demanding next-generation Intrusion Prevention and Detection Systems with greater performance, ease of management and
diminished people and network operational impact. Reflex Security is poised to take advantage of this recent shift in the IT security
marketplace, where today's IT security customers not only want to detect attacks but want to proactively prevent them. "As buyers of security
begin to look for better security solutions at the network and host level, I believe Reflex Security is uniquely positioned to capture
significant market share in this growing segment," continued Watson.
Reflex Security has a flexible set of solution offerings to accomplish prevention in real-time, with minimal operational
infrastructure requirements. From a security perspective, as more and more organizations are subject to targeted attacks on
specific types of network devices, securing critical application servers from these increasingly sophisticated attacks is taking
precedence. Reflex Security's host-based Blade offering is unique in addressing these types of malicious attacks.
